Day boat hire

Sovereign Lady & Balmoral Lady

The pleasures of boating on the Royal River Thames

Light and shade, sun and shadows, rippling water, a different pace of life - these are the things you will appreciate in a day spent on the river.

The rush of driving along busy roads, of queuing in congested towns will fade into the background as you travel at a gentle pace - your own pace - where the beauty of the surrounding scene is something you and all in your party can see and enjoy.

Travelling upstream, a day's cruising from Datchet will bring you to towns such as Royal Windsor and, on the opposite bank, Eton; then the pretty village of Bray and a little way farther on Maidenhead with its memories of Edwardian punting heydays.

At the limit of your cruising range are Boulter's Lock and the beech-wooded heights of Cliveden. Throughout the greater part of your trip the Round Tower of Windsor Castle remains a still and familiar landmark.

Downstream will bring you to historic Runnymede with its many associations - Magna Carta, the memorial to President Kennedy and, atop Cooper's Hill, the one to the Commonwealth Air Forces. The River winds on past London Stone marking the former limit of jurisdiction of the City of London, down to the busy town of Staines and then on to Laleham where riverside homes and bungalows front the meadows which once surrounded Laleham Abbey.

At many spots along the River you will find ideal moorings where you can tie up and enjoy a picnic. Or perhaps you may prefer to visit one of the riverside restaurants and pubs which pride themselves on their standards of gastronomic excellence. The choice is yours.

During the course of your cruise you will pass though a number of Thames locks. All these are operated by navigation staff ready to help and advise on any aspect of your trip. There is no charge to the hirer for passing through the locks; indeed, you will find the brief stop an opportunity to meet other boating folk and to exchange news and views on what lies ahead.

First time on a boat?
Our staff will show you the controls of the boat, explain operating procedures and demonstrate where necessary. You will also be given information about the rules of navigation. In inclement weather the canvas top can be drawn back to provide cover.

Edwardian Lady - Coming Soon

To book a day boat please call us on 01753 543930. On booking we require a credit card number. Our opening hours from March to October are 8.30am to 5.30pm.

All boats are available for hire from 9am to 5.30pm Easter to October inclusive. An accident deposit of £100 is payable on arrival. This is refunded after the boat is returned without being involved in an accident or loss or damage of equipment. Boats returned late or in a dirty condition will be charged at the normal hourly rate. Boats for the whole day can be booked in advance at any time, a four hour hire is bookable in advance for mid-week only. All advance bookings are taken with a credit or debit card. Late cancellations mean we can sometimes offer a boat on the day itself, which may include a four hour hire at the weekend, and it is always worth a phone call to check.
